An eighth case of HPAI reported in Nebraska

Nebraska has detected another case of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a small, backyard mixed flock.

The state department of agriculture and USDA’s Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) confirmed that the eighth farm is in Washington County.

State Veterinarian Dr. Roger Dudley says the farm has been quarantined and depopulation has started.  NDA says it’s establishing a 6.2-mile surveillance zone around the affected farm.

The agency says a confirmed case of HPAI has been detected in Republic County Kansas and the surveillance zone for that flock extends into Nuckolls County, in Nebraska.
