Alice promotes using real Christmas trees

Wisconsin’s Alice in Dairyland says when thinking about a Christmas tree purchase, think real.

Julia Nunes tells Brownfield Christmas trees help stabilize soil, protect water, and provide habitat for wildlife when growing. “It’s a huge industry, and a lot of people when they think about Christmas, I hope they think of real Wisconsin Christmas trees because not only are they bringing a real, natural product into their home that can eventually be biodegraded or turned into woodchips, but it’s a really great way to support local farmers throughout the state.”

And, the trees don’t have to end up in a landfill after the holidays. “It keeps things out of landfills. It’s a natural product. When you’re done with it, you can recycle it.”

Nunes cut a tree last Friday with 8th grade students from St. Ann’s Catholic School in Stoughton. She says, “I’m looking forward to decorating that tree that I cut down at the Park Hotel in Madison (Friday) and it will be a lot of fun.”

Wisconsin ranks fifth in the nation in natural Christmas tree production and there are over 500 Christmas tree farms in the state.
