Agronomist urges farmers to use fungicide after hail

Seed Consultants Agronomist Bill McDonald says some Indiana farmers reported hail in fields last week.

He says this brings a unique set of challenges…

“My biggest problem with hail on corn is not that it won’t go ahead and produce because it will,” he says. “When it’s hit at an early stage it will go ahead and be fine, my concern is disease that it’s opened up for.”

“So that when harvest time comes their stalks will still be standing,” he says. “Otherwise that’s what I see a lot of times is disease gets in these plants and destroys the integrity of the crop.”

McDonald is the director of agronomic services for Seed Consultants.
