AgriGrowth hosts USMCA webinar as agreement goes into effect July 1st

U.S., Mexican and Canadian officials are hailing USMCA as a victory ahead of the agreement going into effect July 1st.

Canada’s Ambassador to the U.S. Kirsten Hillman says all three countries should be proud of the replacement to NAFTA.

“The agreement preserves all the fundamentals that were in NAFTA since its inception, which essentially created one of the world’s first and broadest free trade zones.”

Hillman participated in a webinar hosted by Minnesota AgriGrowth Wednesday that also featured Mexico’s Ambassador to the U.S. Martha Barcena.

“We are privileged to be able to guarantee food security to North Americans. But not only that, the whole American continent is the only continent that can guarantee food security for all.”

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz also took part and says fair trade is critically important in an unstable world.

“And I think it goes without saying, there are no greater friends to Minnesota and Minnesota agriculture than Canada and Mexico.”

AgriGrowth board chairman Rod Hebrink, CEO of Compeer Financial, calls USMCA an essential agreement for U.S. agriculture that needs to be maintained so the trade relationships with Canada and Mexico continue to grow.
