Ag Secretary Perdue says trade remains critical during pandemic

Ag Secretary Sonny Perdue says the US agriculture industry remains committed to meeting the needs of global partners during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Even during this global pandemic the US agricultural industry prides itself on its continued ability to provide our global customers with high quality, cost competitive food, feed, fuel and fiber,” he says.

And, he says those trade relationships remain even more critical now.

“As the world continues to combat COVID-19, we’ve all had to be creative in terms of how we conduct business and live our lives,” he says. “We can’t allow this situation to take away from the importance of the work we do in promoting trade in food and agricultural products.”

Perdue made these comments during the US Soybean Export Council’s second Asia Trade Exchange. He says the USDA continues to work together with USSEC to facilitate trade through international marketing programs.

Perdue says he looks forward to continuing to work together to provide support and funding to help link buyers and suppliers, share information on innovative and sustainable production practices, and to promote science-based international standards that promote free, fair and reciprocal trade.
