AFBF pleased with legislation to improve broadband maps

American Farm Bureau says the House-passed Broadband Deployment Accuracy and Technological Availability Act will improve broadband coverage maps.

The legislation requires broadband providers to report more precise data which will allow agencies to target funding in areas that need it most.

Farm Bureau President Zippy Duvall says broadband is a necessity and many rural areas are underserved. AFBF is asking the Senate to pass the legislation.

Current broadband coverage maps are not accurate because they rely on census block data. Census blocks are too large in rural areas to accurately determine needs.

The bill also requires the Federal Communications Commission to establish an audit process to ensure internet service providers are providing accurate data used to create the maps.
