Members of the American Coalition for Ethanol (ACE) are in Washington this week for their annual DC fly-in.

On Tuesday, they met with Bill Wehrum, assistant administrator for air and radiation in the EPA. ACE president Duane Kristensen says they asked some very pointed questions of Wehrum.

“What are the small refinery exemptions? How are they happening? What is the impact?”

Kristensen says they also reminded Wehrum of ethanol’s positive contributions, including “air quality and a number of things that are main benefits of using ethanol as a fuel source.”

Kristensen says Wehrum indicated the year-round E15 rule would be approved in time for the summer driving season.

“I can’t say that everybody had real warm, fuzzy feelings after this, but at least it explained some things,” he says.
