A good time to sell farmland

This might be a good time for owners of farmland to consider selling.

Brian Mohr with Farmers National Company says prices have stabilized following a period of slumping values tied to lower commodity prices.

Looking ahead, he tells Brownfield there are more reasons for prices to drop rather than increase.

“The factors we rely on for land values are commodity prices, weather, and world events.  All three of those areas right now seem to be pretty calm, but than can change.”

If any of those areas have negative news, he says land prices would likely suffer.

On the other hand, Mohr isn’t seeing many factors that could drive prices higher.

“So if you’re looking to sell a piece of ground in the next year or two, now is a really good time.”

Farmers National is reporting a strong increase in Midwestern landowners looking to sell, and auctions are being scheduled for this summer and fall.
