76% of U.S. corn, 71% of soybeans rated good to excellent

The USDA’s national corn and soybean condition ratings dipped slightly over the past week. Parts of the Midwest were hit with heavy rainfall and unseasonably hot temperatures, but at the start of July, both corn and soybeans remain in very good shape overall.

As of Sunday, 76% of U.S. corn is in good to excellent condition, down 1% on the week, but still 8% higher than this time last year, with 17% of the crop silking, compared to 9% a year ago and the five-year average of 8%.

71% of U.S. soybeans are called good to excellent, 2% lower than a week ago, but 7% above last year, with 27% of beans blooming, compared to 17% a year ago and the typical pace of 13%.

51% of the winter wheat crop is harvested, compared to 49% on average, and 37% of the crop is rated good to excellent, steady on the week.

77% of spring wheat is in good to excellent shape, unchanged from a week ago, with 58% of the crop headed, compared to 48% normally this time of year.

51% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, a 2% week to week improvement.

The USDA’s next set of production estimates is out July 12th.
