73% of corn, 66% of soybeans planted in Illinois

Illinois farmers blew past the halfway mark for corn and soybean planting last week.

The USDA reports as of Sunday 73% of corn is planted, a jump from 40% the week before and well ahead of the five-year average of 46%. 17% of the crop has emerged.

Soybean planting is 66% complete, up from 39% the week prior and 38 percentage points ahead of average. 14% of the crop has emerged.

Winter wheat conditions improved slightly week over week with a rating of 68% good to excellent.

Statewide topsoil moisture is considered 74% and subsoil moisture is 82% adequate to surplus.
