53% of U.S. corn, 56% of soybeans good to excellent

The USDA’s national good to excellent ratings declined slightly last week for corn and soybeans.
Weather was mixed again across the region last week, with improved rainfall boosting or stabilizing yield prospects in some areas, but coming too late for others.

As of Sunday, 53% of U.S. corn is rated good to excellent, down 1% on the week, with 95% at the dough making stage, 77% dented, and 25% mature, all slower than normal, and 5% harvested, just ahead of the five-year average.

56% of soybeans are called good to excellent, 1% lower, with 97% at pod setting stage and 22% dropping leaves, both behind average.

10% of the winter wheat crop is planted, compared to 7% normally in early-to-mid September.

85% of spring wheat has been harvested, compared to the five-year average of 89%.

33% of cotton is in good to excellent shape, 2% below last week, with 49% of bolls opening, compared to 41% on average, and 8% harvested, matching the usual pace.

72% of the rice crop is reported as good to excellent, steady with a week ago, and 34% is harvested, compared to the typical rate of 39%.

25% of U.S. pastures and rangeland are in good to excellent condition, up 1%.
