49% of South Dakota corn, 29% of soybeans planted

Corn and soybean planting continues to progress ahead of the average pace in South Dakota.

The USDA says as of Sunday 49% of the state’s expected corn crop has been planted, compared to the five-year average of 41%. Eight percent of the crop has emerged.

Soybeans planted was 29%, ahead of 14% last year and 22% average. Just 1% of the crop has emerged.

The state’s spring wheat planting reached 84% completion with 37% of the crop emerged.

Winter wheat condition is rated 23% good-to-excellent.

Eighty-four percent of oats have been planted, compared to the five-year average of 77%. Forty-one percent of the crop has emerged.

One percent of sunflowers have been planted, equal to last year’s pace.

Pasture and range conditions are rated 20% good-to-excellent.
