Tar spot double trouble

Tar spot pressure in some parts of the Corn Belt could warrant a second fungicide treatment.

LG Seeds agronomist Jed Norman calls Iowa one of the battleground states when it comes to tar spot.

“A lot of guys did a fungicide application at that tassel timeframe, and we’re starting to get out of that window of residuals. So we are starting to question ourselves ‘do we need to be out there again? Is a second application necessary?”

He tells Brownfield scouting is crucial.

“To make sure we stay on top of this because it is a very aggressive disease, and it would be a bad day if we let it go.”

Brownfield interviewed Norman and AgReliant Genetics manager of hybrid product breeding Mike Popelka during an AgReliant Genetics innovations meeting in Ames, Iowa Thursday.
