2% of Iowa’s corn harvested, USDA says

The USDA says some farmers in Iowa have started harvesting corn.

The weekly crop progress report shows 2% of the state’s corn crop has been harvested as of Sunday. Ninety-three percent of the crop is denting, five days ahead of the five-year average. Corn was rated 64 percent good-to-excellent.

Soybeans are rated 63 percent good-to-excellent. Thirty percent of the crop was dropping leaves and 75% were coloring.

Ninety-four percent of Iowa’s third cutting of alfalfa hay is complete. Pasture conditions rose slightly to 34 percent good-to-excellent.

The USDA says some producers have livestock on dry lots due to lack of water in pastures.
