Time was well spent discussing VFD ahead of implementation
Dr. Tony Martin says the months leading up to implementation of the Food and Drug Administration’s Veterinary Feed Directive were well spent trying to get livestock producers as familiar as possible with the directive. Martin – staff veterinarian for Missouri-based feed and animal health company MFA Incorporated – has been getting many questions since the rule became effective. Dr. Martin’s advice to producers six months after implementation of the VFD is the same as it was before it went into effect: Producers need to establish a client/patient relationship with a veterinarian before documents are needed.
