Behind the Scenes

Successful 2023 NAFB Convention

It was an exciting and exhausting week in November for the Brownfield Ag News team at the 2023 National Association of Farm Broadcasting (NAFB) convention held in Kansas City. A few highlights: Meghan Grebner Conant rocked her role as President of the NAFB foundation; Carah Hart planned and executed a fantastic convention as President-elect of our association and will take the reins as President in 2024.

In the NAFB broadcast contest Mark Dorenkamp was recognized as #1 in the nation and Larry Lee took 4th place honors for newscasts. Nicole Heslip received 3rd place in the nation with a feature report; and 3rd place video markets award went to our John Perkins. Anna Bethany received her 5-year tenure award and Kellan Heavican received the Doane award for a series he did for Brownfield Ag News ..although no awards at convention our team is better because Brent Barnett is on it.

We celebrated NAFB President Joe Gill, farm broadcaster at Brownfield affiliate radio station KASM in Albany, Minnesota at the annual President’s Banquet.
And thanks to Learfield, for the first time in its history, in 2024 the NAFB Foundation will have a scholarship in a woman’s name: Cyndi Young.
