Behind the Scenes

Brownfield Intern named Missouri State Fair Queen

We always knew she was royalty.  Tyne Morgan was named Missouri State Fair Queen Friday.  She entered the competition because, like most college students, she needed the scholarship money.  This was her first pageant.  The release from the Missouri State Fair had this to say about her:

Tyne150(SEDALIA, Mo.) – Miss Tyne Morgan of Lexington, MO, representing Santa Fe Agri-Leaders, was crowned 2006 Missouri State Fair Queen on August 11th in Mathewson Exhibition Center.

Miss Morgan, the 20-year-old daughter of John and Evelyn Morgan of Lexington, has grown up with agriculture her entire life. Her father is an FFA Advisor at Santa Fe High School, which has opened many doors for Tyne to be involved in all aspects of agricultural life.

Tyne has attended and participated in the Missouri State Fair for as long as she can remember. Her dad ran the Children’s Barnyard from 1994-1996, where she helped every day of the fair.

She will be a junior at the University of Missouri – Columbia, majoring in Agriculture Journalism. Tyne is excited about the upcoming year and says, “I just can’t wait to meet everyone and have the opportunity to show how important agriculture is to the state of Missouri and all its residents.”

A total of fifty-seven bright, talented and beautiful young women competed in the 2006 pageant. The ladies competed in three rounds of competition including interview, speech/talent and evening gown. Winners in each of these categories, as well as Miss Congeniality, were also named. Miss Central Missouri Kari Gai won the talent competition. Jamie Slaten, Miss Missouri Outdoors 2006, won the speech contest as well as being named Miss Congeniality by the other contestants. Tyne Morgan received first place in the interview and evening gown competition.

Fifth thru first runners up were also named. Fifth Runner-up was Sarah Hammond, Miss Miller County; Fourth Runner-up was Miss Cooper County, Dawn Sherill; Kari Gai, Miss Central Missouri, received Third Runner-up; Second Runner-up was Miss Missouri Honey Queen Sarah Jackson; and First Runner-up was Jamie Slaten, Miss Missouri Outdoors 2006.

  • Apparently farm broadcast interns as fair royalty is the “in” thing this year; our summer intern Meredith Logsdon is the Ohio Fairs Queen! She has been very busy coordinating our County Fair and Festival Tour, as well as our exhaustive coverage of the Ohio State Fair. Whadda wacky coincidence!

  • Jason Jenkins from University of Missouri emailed me last week with this comment:
“How about Tyne getting named state fair queen? That’s the second year in a row that an MU AgJ student has been named queen. If Sarah Jackson wins next year (she was third this year), that’ll make the trifecta!”
