Farmer turns real estate transaction into charitable gift

Sullivan County farmer Howard Unger doesn’t call his support of his local community foundation giving, he says he’s investing in his community.  A community, that he says, has been good to him.  Through Howard’s time and commitment, he was able to help his community establish a foundation from the sale of a farm and a matching grant from the Lilly Endowment Inc.  Today, his family continues to give back to their local community foundation through two established funds.  He tells Brownfield he hopes to also lead by example and by investing his own time and money into the local community foundation, it will inspire and motivate others to do the same.

Every county in Indiana has a community foundation that helps make life better for you and future generations. Find out how to use gifts of land, equipment, and grain to leave a legacy through your local community foundation at inphilanthropy.org/legacy.
