Focus on weed reduction

Farmers at Commodity Classic were asking a lot of questions about the herbicide supply. Most of the concerns are about foliar herbicides like glyphosate, glufosinate and atrazine. Nick Hustedde, Technical Service Manager who covers parts of Illinois and Indiana for FMC Corporation tells Brownfield growers need to do everything they can to manage weeds in the soil to take the pressure off post-emergence herbicides.

Hustedde tells Brownfield FMC has one of the best pipelines in the industry including new modes of action and underutilized modes of action.

Hustedde tells Brownfield there is a need to focus on reducing weeds by incorporating other tactics, in addition to herbicides, into the system. He tells Brownfield growers would benefit from using mechanical strategies such as tillage as well as cultural practices to improve the speed to canopy closure.
