Enough moisture for now in northwest Iowa

weather iconWith planting season just around the corner, northwest Iowa farmer Dean Meyer says he has plenty of moisture, for the time being.

“We had two snows last week and we’ve got rain coming,” Meyer says. “Moisture is adequate to above-adequate. It’s not going to be an issue, it’s just going to be a matter of warming up and drying up so we can get in the field.”

Meyer says he continues to look for ways to improve the efficiency of his operation.

“We’re definitely doing more variable rating as far as seeding. We’re looking at things like that where we can cut costs–variable rate fertilizing and we’re going to do a little more side dressing of nitrogen.  Just trying to use efficiently the tools we have to produce the same yield, maybe a little bit more efficiently.”

Meyer farms near Rock Rapids, Iowa.
