New wheat mill to be built in Willard, Ohio

Frankenmuth, Michigan based Star of the West Milling Company has announced it will build a state of the art mill in Willard, Ohio, with construction to begin this fall.

Mike Fassezke, VP of the Flour Milling Division at Star of the West says construction will take about two years.

“That mill will produce 10,000 hundred weights per day, which is 1 million pounds,” Fassezke said. “The flour milling industry measures everything in hundred pound increments, so 1 million pounds per day.”

Fassezke tells Brownfield the Willard site is located not only close to several of their larger customers, but also to where the wheat is grown.

“That area does grow a lot of wheat and there should be plenty of wheat available locally that we can supply this operation,” said Fassezke. “We do not intend to buy wheat directly from the farmer at this point in time, we’re going to continue to support our supply network with the Co-op elevators in the area.”

Star of the West Milling also has a mill in Kent, Ohio.
