Liquid feed use increases

It appears farmers used a little more liquid feed in their livestock rations last year.  The American Feed Industry Association has released its Liquid Feed Tonnage Report showing an overall increase of 6.25 percent from 2012 to 2013.

More than 2.5 million tons of liquid feed was manufactured in 2013.  The biggest user was dairy feed, 826,000 tons up 2 percent from the previous year.  Beef feedlots had the biggest increase, up 24 percent to 740,000 tons.  Blocks accounted for nearly 304,000 tons up 5 percent from 2012.  Feed mill use declined 5 percent to 347,000 tons and range supplementation slipped 1 percent to 321,000 tons.

Anonymous manufacturers from across the country participated in the survey providing data from 2012 and 2013.  More liquid feed is produced than reported, the survey is designed to indicate trends.
