No relief in sight for California

California 5-13-14The California Department of Water Resources says the final survey of the season put the California mountain snowpack as of May 1st at 18 percent of the average for that date. At this point in the season there is little chance of any further recharge of the state’s reservoirs ahead of summer.

Traditionally the Sierra Nevada snowpack supplies about one-third of the water for California’s farms and cities. The situation could lead to further restrictions on water use in the state.

The latest U.S. Drought Monitor shows all of California in Severe Drought with 76 percent in Extreme Drought with nearly 25 percent in Exceptional Drought, the worst category.
