Forecasting Fusarium Head Blight

With the help of the Fusarium Head Blight (FHB) Risk Assessment Tool and the FHB Alert System, wheat and barley producers can better predict when and where scab could be an issue.

Eric DeWolf, Extension plant pathologist at Kansas State University says the risk assessment tool not only features maps, it also provides information from university crop specialists.

“Giving their opinion of what the model is showing for their area and also contributing their expertise to the decision making process,” said DeWolf.

The FHB Alert System provides growers, by text or email, advance notice of potential outbreaks and risk of scab that will help producers with timely treatment of at-risk fields.
