Iowa-based fertilizer plant is positive for farmers, food security
An official of Iowa Farm Bureau says the construction of large fertilizer plant in southeast Iowa is a very positive development for both Midwestern farmers and U.S. consumers.
Egyptian company Orascom Construction Industries this week announced plans to build a one-point-four billion dollar fertilizer plant in Lee County in southeast Iowa.
The plant will use natural gas to make anhydrous ammonia and related fertilizer products.
Iowa Farm Bureau director of research Dave Miller says having the fertilizer produced in the Midwest will save farmers about 740 million dollars per year in cost compared to imported fertilizer.
Miller tells Brownfield it’s also a positive for food security in the U.S.
