Indiana ADM facility announces Plenish contract program

Frankfort, Indiana soybean growers have an opportunity to expand their soybean portfolio.  ADM and DuPont Pioneer announced earlier this week they would contract with growers near Frankfort, Ind. to produce Plenish high oleic soybeans for the 2013 growing season.

Tom Tiffany, sales manager for ADM oils says this is a great opportunity for soybean growers.  “More and more demand for oil is being placed on soybeans – specifically because of the trans-fat issue around the country,” he says.  “By growing this high oleic variety it creates a larger demand for soybeans, which ultimately benefits the Indiana farmer.”

Tiffany tells Brownfield there are some additional steps that need to be taken with the Plenish soybeans.  “There is specific care that must be taken not only in the field to keep the commodity soy separated from Plenish, but also our (ADM’s) end in crushing and refining the oils,” he says.  “This helps to minimize the commingling of different types of beans and oils.”

He says farmers will receive a processor-paid incentive for producing and delivering the soybeans in 2013.  The intention is then to market the high oleic soybean oil for use in the food industry in 2014.
