global food prices will not decline in 2012, they should not increase as much as in the past couple of years. Brazilian Jose Graziano da Silva is the new Director-General of the FAO, he says continuing economic instability will temper food price inflation but also push more people into hunger.

The FAO’s Global Food Price Index hit an all-time high last February but has backed-off since as crops improved and global economic turmoil pushed demand lower.

Graziano da Silva has made elimination of hunger and undernourishment his top priority as Director-General. The organization estimates 1 billion people suffer from chronic hunger in the world.
