Iowa State Fair will host “Frying Frenzy”

Some of Iowa’s top chefs will be competing in the first annual “Frying Frenzy” this Monday afternoon at the Iowa State Fair.

The chefs will be preparing their unique fried food creations using Plenish high oleic soybean oil, a healthier oil alternative developed by Pioneer Hi-Bred.

“Plenish has zero grams of trans fat and 20 percent less saturated fat than commodity soybean oil—and 75 percent less than widely-used palm oil,” says Pioneer’s Amanda Rinehart,

She says they anticipate that Plenish will be commercialized in 2012. “Right now we have testing agreements with about 20 major food companies who are testing everything from the functionality to the taste and performance of that product.”

The Frying Frenzy starts at 4 p.m. Monday, August 15th in the Elwell Family Food Center at the Iowa State Fair.
