Developing the next generation of scientist

As part of National 4-H’s Science Mission Mandate, Indiana 4-H’s goal is to develop 50,000 scientists by the year 2013.  The path to meeting that goal became a little simpler this week.  Indiana 4-H Foundation Executive Director Shelly Bingle-Coffman says Pioneer Hi-Bred presented a check for $20,000 to help in the effort.  She says Pioneer is sponsoring four mini 4-H science clubs in the rural areas of Indiana that counties can apply for and the 4-H program can spend out in the counties.

Bingle-Coffman says the clubs will be focused on the science of food agriculture and renewable energy.  Brad Lance, Business Director for Pioneer says this partnership was a logical choice because they will be hiring 4,000 new employees  across the globe in the next few years and Lance says a large number will be in the science based field.  He says a good pipeline of science trained and technology trained individuals with the leadership and life skills 4-H instills are essential to long-term success.

The check presentation was earlier this week at the Indiana State Fair
