Ohio expands EAB quarantine to all counties

The state of Ohio has expanded their Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) quarantine to include all 88 counties in the state. Officials with the state’s agriculture department said while the insect has not been found in all of the counties it is just a matter of time before it is so they decided to add the remaining 19 southeastern counties to the quarantine list. A federal quarantine already banned the movement of ash wood out of the state; this change just makes it easier to move wood around within the state.

The Emerald Ash Borer first came into the United States through the port of Detroit in 2002. It was found near Toledo, Ohio in 2003 and since that time it has spread to Illinois, Indiana, Maryland, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Quebec, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Kentucky. Millions of ash trees have been killed by the invasive insect.
