Hay expo wraps up its two day run

Northeast Iowa received heavy rains the first part of this week, but that didn’t stop a large crowd from several states to attend the Farm Progress Hay Expo on the Matt and Jana Hamlett farm near Strawberry Point on Wednesday. Show manager Matt Jungeman said he was more than thrilled with the first day crowd. Show officials had to work around some wet holes in the parking lots and demonstrations were postponed until Thursday. But the lack of field work gave visitors an opportunity to talk with exhibitors.

All field demonstrations were held on Thursday and visitors had the opportunity to see the latest in haying equipment. Matt Hamlett told Brownfield this has been his best hay crop in four years.  Farmers had an opportunity to harvest the first cutting of hay earlier, but that window closed quickly with all the rain and many are finishing the first crop up while others are working on the second cutting.

The Farm Progress Hay Expo dates and location for next year will be released around the first of the year.
