97% of U.S. corn, 74% of soybeans planted

U.S. corn planting is nearly finished and almost three quarters of the soybean crop is planted.

As of Sunday, USDA reports 97% of corn is planted, up 4% from last week, 5% more than this time last year and 1% ahead of the five year average. 85% of the crop has emerged, up 14% from both a week ago and a year ago and 5% more than average. 76% of corn is in good to excellent condition, 5% higher than last week.

For soybeans, 74% is planted, an increase of 21% from the previous week and 11% ahead of last year but 1% slower than average. 46% of soybeans have emerged, up 22% from a week ago, 13% more than a year ago and 2% above average.

Spring wheat is 95% planted, 4% more than last week and 8% ahead of last year but 1% below the five year average. 84% of spring wheat has emerged, 14% higher than last week, 20% above last year and steady with the average pace. 85% of spring wheat is in good to excellent condition, unchanged on the week.

75% of winter wheat has headed, which is 12% more than a week ago but 1% less than a year ago and down 3% from average. 65% of winter wheat is in good to excellent shape, 1% below the previous week.

69% of U.S. pastures and rangelands are in good to excellent condition, 2% more than last week and up 11% from last year.
