Investigating the pros and cons of hay soaking

Dr. Krishona Martinson is the Equine Extension Specialist at the University of Minnesota.  She specializes in equine forage management, both pasture and hay,  as well as weed control and poisonous plants.  Dr. Martinson is conducting several interesting research trials, including one on hay soaking.  She tells us that hay soaking is fairly common in the industry as a way to treat horses that are susceptible to high levels of sugar or fructan, perhaps horses that have had laminitis in the past. Dr Martinson talks about her hay soaking trials and some of the other forage research projects she is currently working on.
