Are big ag companies hurting or helping farmers?

Competition in the agriculture sector was being discussed in Ankeny, Iowa last week, at a workshop organized by the Department of Justice and the USDA.  The big question:  are large agribusiness companies misusing their power and, if so, what should be done about it?  One of the workshop’s panel discussions featured several farmers.  Expressing concerns with anti-competitive practices in agriculture was Moville, Iowa grain and cattle farmer Eric Nelson.  Presenting a different point of view was Floyd, Iowa farmer Pam Johnson, who talked about the innovations that have made American agriculture the envy of the world.
