Soybean rust not big in SC, but spreads in AR

While several mostly southeastern states are dealing with the spread of soybean rust, South Carolina’s cases are not as widespread and rust damage is minimal. The Southeast Farm Press says growers report soybean rust in seminal plots in the southeast corner of the state. Dry weather is not conducive to soybean rust spread and much of South Carolina is still in a dry weather pattern. Growers in Arkansas, however, are being advised to consider treating beans in the R1 to mid R5 stage with good yield potential. Soybean rust is spreading fast in Arkansas and is expected to increase throughout the Delta area because of continued cool and wet weather there.

Besides South Carolina and Arkansas, the USDA reports soybean rust also detected in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Tennessee and Texas.

Midwest states, so far, have no reports of rust.
