Heavy rains hit dry areas of Wisconsin

Just a little more than a day after Governor Jim Doyle declared a drought emergency in the northern half of Wisconsin, the rains fell. A slow-moving storm system dumped heavy rains right across the middle of the state from Thursday night through Friday morning. The National Weather Service reported 3.86 inches fell at Mondovi, 3.4 inches as Osseo; Eau Claire had 2.5 inches, up to 6.5 inches in two hours deluged Pepin County. There were mud slides in several western counties.

As the storm moved eastward, Marshfield got 1.65 inches; Wausau had 2.7 inches with spotted reports of up to six inches flooding streets in the Central Wisconsin cities. Unfortunately, extreme northwestern Wisconsin did not get any rain.
