Insect pressure continues to build

Aaron Gault, Territory Agronomist for Dekalb and Asgrow in Eastern Indiana, says a mild winter, combined with an early spring is bringing about increased insect pressure.

“I’m seeing bean leaf beetle pressures on the early planted beans, not meeting threshold levels yet, but in my 10 years in the field more pressure of a lot of insects,” said Gault. “We’re looking at army worm, we had early flights of black cutworm, corn borer pressure, western bean cutworm, we’ve got an early corn rootworm hatch, so insects are going to be there and we need to be in the fields monitoring those more than we ever have.”

Gault recommends field scouting at least weekly when possible.
