BCAP agreements number 4,600

More than four-million tons of biomass has been approved through the USDA’s Biomass Crop Assistance Program (BCAP) which was created in the 2008 Farm Bill. More than 46-hundred agreements have been approved for delivery of biomass from producers, energy facilities and communities. The USDA’s Farm Service Agency provides matching payments for the collection, harvest, storage and transport of eligible biomass to be converted to biofuels. FSA is paying 45 dollars per dry ton for eligible biomass deliveries.

Show Me Energy Cooperative of Centerview, Missouri is the first facility to get matching funds for delivery of biomass materials. The cooperative is made up of 600 Midwestern farmers and other owners.

As of last week, more than 165 Million dollars in matching payments had been paid to eligible biomass owners nationwide. The public comment period on the BCAP program ends this Friday, April 9th. A final rule is expected to follow.
