Weather

Heat, humidity & storms

On the Plains, temperatures above 100° can be expected across a broad area for the third consecutive day.  Very humid weather persists as well, maintaining stress on crops and livestock.

Across the Corn Belt, scattered showers and locally severe thunderstorms are providing local relief from dry conditions across the lower Great Lakes region. Elsewhere, hot, humid weather has resulted in the issuance of Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings. However, high temperatures above 95° have been, and will continue to be, mostly restricted to the western and southern fringes of the Corn Belt.

In the South, hot weather is maintaining high moisture demands for crops and pastures. Scattered showers are providing local relief in the Southeast, but other areas—including the western Gulf Coast region—remain dry.

In the West, monsoon-related showers remain active across the Four Corners States. Showers also dot the Northwest, accompanied by a push of cooler air, maintaining mostly favorable conditions for spring-sown crops
