South Dakota oats cutting is ahead of normal

Spring wheat cutting began in parts of South Dakota this past week.  USDA’s Ag Statistics Service says winter wheat and oats cutting are ahead of average.  High heat and humidity impacted most of the State, stressing crops, rangeland, and livestock. Scattered showers and thunderstorms brought relief to some areas, but many locations had little or nothing.

Topsoil moisture is 53 percent adequate to surplus.

Winter wheat harvest is 82 percent, 46 percentage points ahead of last year.

Corn is 60 percent good to excellent. The crop is 67 percent silked and just 5 percent in the dough stage.

Spring wheat cutting is 20 percent done.

Soybeans 61 percent good to excellent, 82 percent in the bloom and 42 percent setting pods.

Oats 54 good to excellent, with 58 percent of the harvest done.

Sorghum is 62 good, none of it is excellent.
