Missouri ag part of trade trip to Cuba

Missouri’s Agriculture Director Richard Fordyce will be on Governor Jay Nixon’s upcoming trade mission to Cuba which starts on Sunday.  Missouri Agriculture, Business, Education and Government will all be represented on the four-day trip. The Missouri Soybean Association director and several representatives of Martin Rice in southeast Missouri will be on the trip. So will the president of Southeast Missouri State University.

Nixon says the goal of the trip is to increase exports to Cuba and that Missouri hopes to recapture that market for its high quality, long-grain rice.

The new deep water port at Mariel, Cuba is one of the stops on the trip. The port has expanded to receive large cargo ships and Missouri grains and other products go by cargo ship down the Mississippi River by barge to the Gulf of Mexico and beyond.
