Record organic sales despite supply struggles

Programs ICONThe Organic Trade Association says U.S. organic sales hit a new record in 2015 even with supply chain gaps.

The Association’s 2016 industry survey says the organic market saw the largest annual dollar gain, up over $4 billion in sales from the previous year. Total organic sales for 2015 were $43.3 billion, up 11 percent from the record year before.  Almost five percent of food sold in the U.S. last year was organic.

The trade association says the industry is investing in infrastructure and education to fill production gaps that lag behind organic consumption. The U.S. Organic Grain Collaborative and Organic Fiber Council have been created to improve supply chains
