Wheat tour participants predict higher yields
Prospects for the Kansas wheat crop have improved significantly as a result of timely rains in April.
Participants in this week’s hard red winter wheat tour in Kansas predict the crop will be nearly 12 bushels per acre better than last year.
Scouts estimate an average yield of 48.6 bushels per acre and a total crop size of 382.4 million bushels. If realized, that would be the biggest Kansas crop since 2012, even though planted acres this year are the lowest since 1957 at 8.5 million.
