Monsanto: EPA again confirms glyphosate safety

Programs ICONMonsanto company says the EPA has reinforced the fact that glyphosate does not cause cancer. Samuel Murphey, external affairs lead for Monsanto chemistry, tells Brownfield Ag News, that is clear in an EPA report posted by the agency last Friday, “This report that was posted online for a time by the EPA’s Cancer Assessment Review Committee, once again, confirmed that committee’s assessment that glyphosate is not carcinogenic to humans.”

The EPA took the report offline on Monday. The EPA told several news agencies that the findings were preliminary and that the report was published “inadvertently” – adding that the agency’s assessment is not final.

Murphey says EPA’s registration review IS ongoing but its findings are clear, “It reviews topics including carcinogenicity and other factors. That review actually began back in 2009. This report was report was the report of one committee as part of that process.”

Murphey says it’s important to look at the overwhelming weight of evidence over 40 years that consistently shows glyphosate is not a carcinogen and is safe for its use as intended.
