Cold wave pattern continues over much of the Corn Belt

Across the Corn Belt, a few snow showers linger downwind of the Great Lakes. Otherwise, cold, dry weather prevails. Thursday morning’s temperatures dipped below 0° across parts of the upper Midwest, where an extensive snow cover remains in place. Current snow depths include 3 inches in Des Moines, Iowa, and Madison, Wisconsin.

On the Plains, patches of light snow are falling across the Dakotas and eastern Montana. In contrast, mild, dry weather covers the southern Plains and the High Plains. Parts of Texas still have an elevated risk of wildfires.

In the South, Thursday morning’s temperatures dipped below 40° in the northern section of Florida’s citrus belt, but did not fall to the freezing mark. Cool, dry weather covers the Southeast, but markedly warmer air is overspreading the western Gulf Coast region.

In the West, warm, dry weather continues to favor early-season fieldwork across California and the Desert Southwest. Isolated showers are confined to the Pacific Northwest. Farther inland, fog and air-stagnation issues remain a concern for some valleys across the interior Northwest and Intermountain West.
