TPP passage is a top priority for NCBA

ellis-philip-san diego 2016The outgoing president of the National Cattlemen’s Beef Association (NCBA) says the future direction of his ranch depends on passage of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP).

Wyoming cattle rancher Philip Ellis tells Brownfield passage of TPP in 2016 is the top priority for his organization—and important to him, personally, as well.

“I’ve been saying all year, it’s the future for my ranch in Wyoming—my ranch family—because it will grow our markets in the Trans Pacific region,” Ellis says. “Beef greatly benefits from this agreement in many respects, so we’re looking forward to Congress passing the Trans Pacific Partnership agreement this year.”

Ellis points out that the U.S. beef industry has been losing market share in Japan to Australia and other nations. He says passage of TPP would reduce tariffs and help level the playing field once again.

“We want that market share back,” Ellis says.

NCBA is still pushing for Congress to act on TPP as soon as possible, although it appears likely it may be delayed until after the November elections.
