MPP enrollment deadline is Friday

This Friday is the deadline for dairy producers to enroll in the Margin Protection Program (MPP) for FY 2016. Brad Pfaff is acting Deputy Administrator for Farm Programs at the Farm Service Agency, he says this is a risk protection tool in what can be a very volatile market.  For a minimum of $100, a producer can protect a margin of $4.00 over feed cost. Additional coverage can be purchased in 50-cent increments up to an $8.00 market.  A market tool is available here to help determine the best level of coverage.

One change this year is the total premium is not due until next September.

Once enrolled in the MPP, a producer remains in the program for the duration of the current farm bill however the level of coverage can be changed each year.

Enrollment is at the local Farm Service Agency office.
