USFRA offers FARMLAND for the classroom

Discovering FARMLAND

The U.S. Farmers and Ranchers Alliance is partnering with Discovery Education to launch educational resources based on the documentary FARMLAND. Discovery Education provides digital content and professional development for K-12 classrooms.  The Discovering FARMLAND initiative will allow high school students and teachers to learn about modern agriculture through the eyes of six young farmers and ranchers.

Nancy Kavazanjian is chair of USFRA, she says they have created a 44-minute version of FARMLAND for the classroom along with four interactive lesson plans for teachers to use.  The lessons explore sustainability, technology, science and animal welfare.  Kavazanjian says the goal is to generate a dialogue with the students to help them understand that modern agriculture is providing safe, affordable and sustainable food.  She talked with Brownfield’s Cyndi Young about the project:

The materials are being distributed through Discovery Education, USFRA partners and are available for viewing and download online here.

  • Would like to get the course outline/lessons plan for the kids. Just heard about the programs on Rural radio. Thanks.
