Rains across parts of the southern Plains

Across the Corn Belt, dry weather prevails in the wake of recent rainfall, although low clouds and fog persist in some areas. Late-season harvest efforts remain on hold where the heaviest rain fell, including the Ohio Valley and portions of the upper Mississippi Valley.

On the Plains, locally heavy showers have returned to parts of Texas and Oklahoma. Showers are also overspreading the central High Plains. The rain is disrupting fieldwork but aiding rangeland, pastures, and winter wheat. Elsewhere, unfavorably dry conditions persist in eastern Kansas and environs, while mild, breezy conditions are developing on the northern Plains.

In the South, Flash Flood Warnings are in effect early Friday in parts of south-central Texas, where heavy rain is falling. Locally heavy showers also cover the remainder of central, southern, and eastern Texas. Farther east, dry weather from the Mississippi Delta eastward favors fieldwork, except in areas where soils remain wet.

In the West, a significant rainfall event is underway in western Washington, where a flood watch is in effect through Sunday. A few showers have spread as far east as the northern Rockies. Mild, dry weather prevails in California and the Great Basin, but showery conditions in the Southwest include some high-elevation snow.
