Minnesota Corn Growers president says more blender pumps are coming

The leader of the Minnesota Corn Growers Association says a USDA grant will make it possible to add several hundred blender pumps statewide.

Bruce Peterson tells Brownfield Minnesota Corn partnered with the Department of Ag and American Lung Association two years ago to start putting in pumps offering various blends of ethanol.

“We’ve already got about 120 of them in the state, but with this grant program we’re looking to add in the area of 600 more (blender pumps).”

According to state ag commissioner Dave Frederickson, Minnesota will receive more than eight million dollars that will be used to develop infrastructure necessary for installing blender pumps.

Peterson says the 120 or so blender pumps already on the market have been successful.

“The sales at these filling stations are going very well.  Prices change all the time, but typically E-15 will be about a dime cheaper than E-10.  And your E-30 is going to be a lot of times 30 cents cheaper than E-10.”

He says more choices at the pump often times saves consumers money and burning higher blends of ethanol improves air quality.
